Texas deputy meets a ‘dead’ deer that was very much awake

What happened

A Trinity County, Texas, sheriff’s deputy thought he had found a dead deer on the roadside around 11 p.m. on Aug. 28, then learned otherwise the hard way, the New York Post reported Sept. 4. As the deputy moved in with a flashlight, the deer sprang onto its hooves. The deputy ran, screaming, and yelled that it was awake. Sheriff Woody Wallace described the encounter; the clip did the rest.

No one was reported hurt. The deer left the scene with more dignity than the soundtrack. The internet did what the internet does with a perfect scream: it watched again.
