Somewhere in the Packers’ 42-38 preseason finale was a quieter perfect game. Trey Smack, a sixth-round kicker out of Florida, made field goals of 36 and 37 yards on Friday and closed the exhibition slate 9 for 9, AP reports via CBS Sports. Three of those were from 50-plus. The long was 59.

The rest of the night belonged to roster panic: Kyle McCord’s four touchdowns, Nyjalik Kelly’s pick, receivers diving for jobs. J. Michael Sturdivant said the hay was in the barn. Smack had already put nine balls through the same barn door.

Kickers do not usually steal a recap from a 42-38 game. This one is named Smack and did not miss. That is the whole bit.
